Loros Gargen of Light & Reflection Wins at RHS Flower Show

The Garden of Light & Reflection, designed and developed by local Leicestershire businesses and organisations on behalf of LOROS (the Leicestershire and Rutland Organisation for the Relief of Suffering), has won a Silver Flora Award at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2011.

Following the show, the garden, which has been designed to heighten the awareness of the therapeutic benefits of gardens and which features raised beds to allow easy access for wheelchair users, will be transferred and permanently installed at the Leicester hospice. There it will provide a relaxing area for contemplation and relaxation for patients and their families providing a lasting legacy for the community that LOROS serves.

The successful garden has been developed thanks to the kind assistance and dedication of several local Leicestershire businesses and organisations, most of whom have donated time and materials for free, including DeJardin Designs as lead designer, Lyndon Landscapes as lead partner, and Kilgour Landscapes of Melton Mowbray as the lead contractor. Project Manager Pauline Pitts of Lyndon Landscapes said; "We are delighted that the garden has been so widely supported and that local companies have been keen to help, with both their time and eye-catching materials."

Brett Landscaping of Barrow-upon-Soar donated sandstone paving and decorative Scottish beach pebbles for the garden, as well as free technical advice. LOROS is the charity chosen by Brett Landscaping for its 2011 fundraising appeal and the donation was part of the company’s ‘Love Your Landscape’ initiative which sees Brett Landscaping donating materials to good community causes across the UK.

Andrew Gill, Love Your Landscape Project Manager at Brett Landscaping said; "We are delighted that the Garden of Light & Reflection has won this award. The finished garden has succeeded in its aim to highlight the therapeutic benefits of gardens and is both beautiful and inspirational. The garden will continue to serve the hospice and the local community for many years when it is relocated in the autumn.

"The commitment and effort shown by all of the contributors to the LOROS Garden of Light & Reflection has been truly impressive and has made this a project which will be remembered fondly by the entire Brett Landscaping team, and I’m sure by everyone involved."

RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show is the biggest flower show in the world attracting over 160,000 visitors annually.
